“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
—Maya Angelou (1928-2014) Poet, Dancer, Producer, Playwright, Director, Author
I’m currently teaching a college course titled the “The Social Organization of Work” (whatever the heck that means). 🙂 The textbook I’m using offered this definition, “the creation of material goods or services, which may be directly consumed by the worker or sold to someone else.” This works, but I wanted a something simplified that most people would understand easily.
Here’s the thing. When I started asking people what work means to them, literally everybody has a different definition. The answers so far have ranged from “something you have to do to survive” to “the service you offer as worship to God”.
So my question is ….what is your definition of work? What does work mean to you?
